At ‘Sides Art and Frames’ gallery in Lytham this week there began an exhibition of art works which included a range of disciplines, from screen prints, to paintings, to 3D pieces, to photography. There’s some really great stuff and all for sale. Some of you art lovers out there may have received an invitation to the private view evenings which were Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The exhibition will run for two weeks, so pop along to ‘Sides’ which is just off the Pleasant Street car park in the centre of Lytham.
I have four pieces of ‘places’ photography as part of the show. Three of which are of Venice and one of San-Francisco. All superbly framed by David at ‘Sides’. Over the decades of working as a photographer I have amassed thousands of negatives, some of which I am in the process of scanning and printing in preparation for my own one man show at ‘Sides’ in March of 2010. At present all of the material for the March exhibition is shot on film and is mainly black and white. Although I am having an inner debate whether to include colour work too.
Although they are on my website I have shown here the four images presented at the ‘Sides’ show to give you a flavour of my material. I have also added some of my thoughts.

- Early morning and soft light depicts the detail of this church facade.

- Venice again. Hand holding the camera at night because I had no tripod at the time..

- I love reflections and shadows and am acutely aware of light and the quality of light as any good photographer should be.

- The streets of San-Francisco this time. I often hand hold the camera and use long shutter speeds as I am at war with the obvious. Emotion is more important than so called photographic perfection. In comes focus, out goes emotion.
